Gooey Coffee Cake (Experiment)

October 29, 2009

Gooey Coffee Cake (Experiment)

1/4 cup margarine
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Topping:
3/4 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons flour
2 teaspoons cinnamon
4 tablespoons margarine

Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and line with waxpaper a 9″ x 9″ pan. I also use pancake mix for the bottom and sides after greasing. Pancake mix has the sweetness. In a medium bown, cream margarine and sugar; beat in egg. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt in a separate bowl. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Stir in vanilla. Pour blended mixture into prepared pan.

To make topping: In a small bowl, mix together sugar, flour and cinnamon. Cut in margarine with pastry blender or fork. Spoon topping over batter. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes

The sugar mixture went right to the bottom, maybe the dough was to wet, possibly add more flour the next time.

You ARE as STUPID as they WANT YOU to be….

October 20, 2009

Go ahead you stupid fools, roll up your sleeves.
Take that shot nobody really needs.
The Pharmaceutical Companies see you just as a dollar.
They get rich while you get sicker and may even die.
Seriously, there are few differences here than what the Nazi’s did to the Jewish people, Gypsies, Blacks, Prisoners and anyone else they just didn’t like. The main difference is you are stupid enough to volunteer.
They were all a big experiment where many died horrible deaths.
Now under the protection of a corrupt and bought out government, these pharmaceutical companies are exempt should something happen to you because of these vaccines.
Only a corrupt and bought out government would do such a horrible thing to their own population.
We put these people in office to protect us, not to become their guinea pigs.
If any of you had any balls of which you don’t, you would say something about this in large groups.
Large groups scare Washington.
The cowards who hide behind desks making decisions about your health after getting that payoff need to be held responsible.
Anyone who unleashes anything unto the population without testing it properly has only one agenda and that is to make money at any cost, including your own life.
But don’t worry, you won’t do anything.
Like mindless dumbasses, you will just go about your business and get your shot and get sicker and die.
Oddly enough because you failed to stay educated, you stayed just as the dumbass you are and became just another number, you became another death. And the dumbasses burying you, they will soon be laying out next to you.
All because of greed and your failure as a human being to do nothing about anything.

John….

Serious Vaccine Reactions to Now Be Called ‘Coincidence’?
October 20 2009

Every day Americans wake up to news reports that warn us about the dangers of influenza, especially the new H1N1 “swine flu”.

But swine flu is mild for most people and the virus is not mutating into a more serious form.

Millions of people around the world have recovered from swine flu, and millions more will get sick with fevers, body aches, nasal congestion, cough and sometimes diarrhea and vomiting and recover from it this year and next year without any complications.
Nonetheless, wide-scale vaccination is being encouraged — even though swine flu vaccines have been tested on only a few thousand healthy Americans for a few weeks. There is little or no information about how safe the vaccine is for pregnant women and chronically ill or disabled children.

If you or your child are injured from getting a flu swine flu shot, you are on your own. Congress has shielded the vaccine manufacturers and any person giving swine flu shots from lawsuits if people get hurt.
There is no funded government vaccine injury compensation program for swine flu vaccine.

Do NOT let a doctor or anyone else tell you that a serious health problem you or your child experiences after vaccination is a coincidence and allow more shots to be given until you know for sure.
The most tragic cases of vaccine injury occur when vaccine reaction symptoms are dismissed as a ‘coincidence” and more vaccines are given that result in more severe symptoms — and sometimes end with permanent brain and immune system damage or death.

But while Americans are still debating whether to roll up their sleeves for a swine flu shot, companies have already figured it out: vaccines are good for business.
Drug companies have sold $1.5 billion worth of swine flu shots, in addition to the $1 billion for seasonal flu they booked earlier this year. These inoculations are part of a much wider and rapidly growing $20 billion global vaccine market.

“The vaccine market is booming,” says Bruce Carlson, spokesperson at market research firm Kalorama, which publishes an annual survey of the vaccine industry. “It’s an enormous growth area for pharmaceuticals at a time when other areas are not doing so well,” he says, noting that the pipeline for more traditional blockbuster drugs such as Lipitor and Nexium has thinned.

As always with pandemic flus, taxpayers are footing the $1.5 billion check for the 250 million swine flu vaccines that the government has ordered so far and will be distributing free to doctors, pharmacies and schools. In addition, Congress has set aside more than $10 billion this year to research flu viruses, monitor H1N1’s progress and educate the public about prevention.

Drugmakers pocket most of the revenues from flu sales, with Sanofi-Pasteur, Glaxo Smith Kline and Novartis cornering most of the market.

But some say it’s not just drugmakers who stand to benefit. Doctors collect copayments for special office visits to inject shots, and there have been assertions that these doctors actually profit handsomely from these vaccinations.

Neb. meatpacker recalls 33,000 lbs. of beef tongue

16 October 2009

OMAHA, Neb. – The U.S. Department of Agriculture says a Nebraska meatpacker has recalled 33,000 pounds of beef tongue.

The agency announced in a news release Thursday that inspectors discovered the tonsils had not been completely removed from the tongues processed by J.F. O’Neill Packing Co. of Omaha.

Tonsils are a specified risk material for mad cow disease and are required to be removed from cattle of all ages.

The USDA says the recall, which involves tongues packed from July 1 through Oct. 8, represents a low risk to human health.

The beef was shipped primarily to distribution centers in Nebraska and California.

Each recalled case bears the establishment number “EST. 889A” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Subject: Pyrex warning – A must read! pass this along to family & friends

SNOPES LINK: TRUE http://www.snopes.com/food/warnings/pyrex.asp

Snopes.com says this is true.

About 5:30 PM there was a loud bang from the oven. Sylvia opened the oven door and the Pyrex dish had shattered into a million pieces. The roast beef (our first in many months) was peppered with small shards of very sharp glass. She shoveled the glass and the now mashed potatoes into a bucket with two putty knives and then sucked up the remains with the shop vac. She let everything cool down and then scrubbed the oven with Simple Green and some hot soapy water. It took over an hour to clean up the goo. Upon completion, She used the oven while empty to see if the temperature controller was working okay. She suspected the oven got too hot and the dish simply blew. This was not the case however. The oven came up to temperature and cycled normally. We threw a frozen pizza in the oven and it cooked okay.

What is going on?

Googled exploding Pyrex dishes and exploding Pyrex is now very common..

Here is the story.

In the past, there was a company named Corning . They made Pyrex dishes. The material they used in their dishes is called borosilicate glass. This stuff is indestructible.

Corning sold the technology to a company called World Kitchen, (Chinese) they also sold the rights to the original Pyrex logo. Seamless. The consumer will never know. The Chinese discovered that using soda lime glass was almost as good as borosilicate glass and a lot cheaper. Today, Wal-Mart is the largest distributor of Pyrex products

Now it seems people are getting hurt using soda lime Pyrex.. We were lucky because the dish broke while the oven was closed and the damage was limited to the oven cavity. Others have been less fortunate. Some dishes explode when they are lifted from the heating rack in the oven with devastating results. World Kitchen is in denial.. They say that the dishes are another brand, not theirs. Contrary to their denials the victims usually have more than one of these dishes and the Pyrex logo is clearly visible

If you buy a Pyrex dish beware. The label on the front says oven safe, freezer safe, microwave safe. The instructions on the back tell another story. You cannot move a soda lime Pyrex dish from the freezer to the oven and expect it to survive. The fine print goes on and on about what you are not allowed to do with the Pyrex dish. The fine print has prevented World Kitchen from being sued because they have warned the consumer that their Pyrex dishes have a potential problem.

What to do?

If you own borosilicate Pyrex dishes no fear. They have to be more than 25 years old to be sure they are indeed original Corning dishes. I am not sure if the old Pyrex dishes have anything stamped in them that indicates they are made by Corning . You may continue to use the soda lime dishes for holding stuff. Just do not attempt to roast or microwave with them as the hazard is very clear.

The reason the soda lime dishes are dangerous is that over time they
develop micro-cracks. Once a few micro-cracks are present and once some liquid finds its way into the cracks you have the potential bomb situation. Super heated liquids expand rapidly and it is the super heated liquids that force the soda lime glass to shatter into tens of thousands of shards.

It is strongly advised that you not to use the soda lime Pyrex for the oven, stovetop or microwave. The slightest invisible crack is all it takes to have a mess and a possible injury.

World Kitchen is not a USA company.

Maltitol: Just Say No

Maltitol: Just Say No
Why Maltitol is Often More Trouble Than It’s Worth

By Laura Dolson, About.com

Updated: February 24, 2009

Let’s cut to the chase:
Maltitol has ¾ of the sweetness of sugar, ¾ the calories of sugar, and ¾ the glycemic index of sugar, it isn’t a far leap to the conclusion that you need ¼ more maltitol to get the same effect of sugar.
I ask you, how could using this kind of product be called No Sugar Added.
As I have told you countless times, if you can just cut back on the amount of real sugar that you use.
If things are used in moderation, you will be better off. (John)

Occasionally, someone will ask why their low-carb diet isn’t working as they think it should be. One of the first questions I ask is whether they are eating products with a lot of sugar alcohols such as maltitol. Although it doesn’t have the same impact on every individual, this one ingredient has been known to stall many a well-intentioned dieter. Here’s why.

What is Maltitol?
Maltitol is a sugar alcohol, an ingredient commonly used in low-carb or “sugar-free” products such as candy and nutrition bars. It is used so much because of its similarity to sugar in terms of taste, mouth feel, and interaction with other ingredients. Products which use maltitol and other sugar alcohols as sweeteners can be called “sugar free.” Although claims are often made that maltitol has little impact on blood sugar, this turns out not to be the case.

Maltitol Has Carbs
Maltitol is a carbohydrate. Although our bodies do not absorb all the calories in maltitol, this substance does provide us with 2 to 3 calories per gram, compared to the 4 calories per gram of sugar. (For what its worth, I have noticed that the claim of 2 calories per gram usually comes from literature provided by the manufacturer or the low calorie food industry whereas other analyses tend to be closer to 3 calories.) Since maltitol is a carbohydrate, and since it provides calories, you would expect it to impact blood glucose. You would be correct.

Maltitol Has a Relatively High Glycemic Index
In particular, maltitol syrup has a glycemic index of 52, which approaches that of table sugar at 60. The powdered form has a glycemic index of 36, which is still higher than most other sugar alcohols and all artificial sweeteners.

Maltitol is Not as Sweet As Sugar
Estimates run from 75% to 90% of the sweetness of sugar. Again, the information provided by industry groups tends to give the 90% figure, while other sources say 75%. So, if maltitol has ¾ of the sweetness of sugar, ¾ the calories of sugar, and ¾ the glycemic index of sugar, it isn’t a far leap to the conclusion that you need ¼ more maltitol to get the same effect of sugar, which will give you close to the same effect in most other ways (except for dental cavities). You are basically getting expensive sugar. And…a bonus:

Maltitol can Cause Intestinal Discomfort
Usually this takes the form of intestinal gas and cramping, but some people may find themselves with diarrhea. If you decide to eat products with maltitol, you’d be wise to start with a small amount and judge the reaction — as well whether you’ll be in a crowded room a few hours later.

Alternatives to Maltitol:
Guess that will require more research, for the place that first did this article says the best alternatives to products with maltitol are products made with erythritol often in combination with artificial sweetners such as sucralose (Splenda). However the problem with Splenda is it is extracted with a chemical, so it is hardly natural and many people including me have problems with Splenda.(John)

Again I can’t tell you enough times not to go by the word of the companies who make things, the FDA and the USDA. Your health is not their bottom line. Their bottom line is greed. Your health depends on knowledge. Make sure the knowledge you are living on is correct. Until the world stops living by greed, you will remain just an experiment to play with.(John)

And the reason I brought this up is because I was given a No Sugar Added candy bar called Almond With Smooth Milk Chocolate Candy made by Ross Chocolates. And it’s first ingredient is Maltitol.

Dangerous foods list includes leafy greens, eggs, tuna

October 7, 2009

Leafy greens — including lettuce and spinach — top the list of the 10 riskiest foods, according to a study from a nutrition advocacy group released Tuesday.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest listed the following foods, in descending order, as the most risky in terms of outbreaks: leafy greens, eggs, tuna, oysters, potatoes, cheese, ice cream, tomatoes, sprouts and berries.

The scientists rated these foods, all of them regulated by the Food and Drug Administration, by the number of outbreaks associated with them since 1990, and also provided the number of recorded illnesses.

The severity of the illnesses ranged from minor stomach aches to death, the center said. With leafy greens such as lettuce, the top cause of illness were pathogens like E. coli, Norovirus and Salmonella in foods that were not properly washed.

Over the past 20 years, leafy greens caused 363 outbreaks, resulting in 13,568 reported illnesses, the center said. That’s compared to berries, No. 10 on the list, which were associated with 25 outbreaks totaling 3,397 reported illnesses.

“Leafy greens are a healthy home run, but unfortunately they’re associated with food-borne illness,” said Sarah Klein, a staff lawyer with the center who helped prepared the study.

In all, the Top 10 resulted in more than 1,500 outbreaks, totaling nearly 50,000 reported illnesses, according to the center, which added that most food-related illnesses don’t get treated or reported, so the real total is likely much larger.

“Millions of consumers are being made ill, hundreds of thousands hospitalized and thousands are dying each year from preventable foodborne illnesses,” the study said. “Unfortunately, the FDA is saddled with outdated laws, and lacks the authority, tools and resources to fight unsafe food.”

Food producers, including the Western Growers Association, released statements criticizing the report.

“Farmers are consumers, too,” the association said, in a release from spokesman Paul Simonds. “They eat the fresh produce they grow as do the members of their families, and have invested millions of dollars enhancing food safety practices in the last few years. Scaring people away from eating some of the healthiest foods on the planet, like fresh produce, does not serve consumers.”

Salmonella was also a chief culprit in egg, cheese and tomato-related illnesses, the study said, in cases when eggs are undercooked and when cheese is not processed properly.

Salmonella can be difficult to remove from raw tomatoes without cooking, according to the study.

The study also associated Salmonella and E. coli with potatoes. Klein said this generally happens when cold-prepared potato items, such as potato salad, are mixed with other contaminated ingredients.

Unrefrigerated fresh tuna deteriorates quickly, the study said, releasing harmful toxins, and canned tuna gets dragged into the picture because of mixed-in ingredients such as mayonnaise. Improperly washed oysters are at risk of Norovirus.

Rich Ruais, executive director of the Blue Water Fisherman Association and the American Blue Fin Tuna Association in Salem, N.H., disagreed with the study’s “bad rap” on tuna.

“Tuna? I beg to differ,” he said. “Tuna is one of the healthiest foods on the Earth. It’s life sustaining; it’s life prolonging.”

Ruais said the tuna-based diet of Japanese citizens plays a big part in their high average longevity. He also said the FDA strictly mandates that tuna is gutted and stuffed with ice immediately after it’s caught by commercial fisherman, and submerged in slush once it gets to shore, to prevent risk of pathogens.

More surprisingly, bacteria can also survive in ice cream, primarily from the Salmonella contamination of eggs, an important ingredient that is sometimes undercooked, the study said. Much of the study’s blame goes to a 1994 outbreak that sickened thousands of ice cream lovers in 41 states.

The National Milk Producers Federation released a statement criticizing the report as “based on outdated information.”

“Cheese and ice cream products are among the safest, most stringently regulated foods in this country,” said the federation, in its release. “The cheese examples in this report mostly concern consumption of raw milk products, which neither [the] FDA nor the dairy industry recommends. The ice cream example is 15 years old and was an isolated incident.”

Yahoo.com

Now I have a few problems with this report, namely when they said the FDA is saddled with outdated laws, lacks authority, tools and resources to fight unsafe food. It all boils down to corruption. If the FDA was serious about protecting our health from bad food, there would be a lot more going on then there is. But sadly greed and corruption will always keep the FDA looking the other way.

As consumers you can do the most by making sure everything is prepared properly and should you get sick, you call your health department right away, at least the local health departments are doing something to make sure we stay safe. I have had to call them a few times when food has made me ill. Yes, even I get hit with the food poisonings. And that is mainly going out to eat.

Bottom line is feel the food, smell the food, look over the food. A lot of times the food itself will tell you there is a problem. When in doubt, throw it out.

Oh and the organizations that criticize this report. They mainly do it to protect their investments. Any report will have a negative impact on sales and with the milk industry already feeling the crunch, they will do what they can to keep sales from being affected. But people in the milk industry wouldn’t be suffering if they didn’t go for the false inflation that raised the prices of dairy products as high as they were earlier. I was paying $4.50 for a gallon a milk that is now down to $2.00. False inflation screws up a lot of things, even the house prices are still ridiculous. It is funny the government says it can’t do anything. Maybe if we put people in office with an education they could figure out how to do that. Oh and by education, I mean work experience. As we have discovered a diploma doesn’t mean anything if you don’t know how to use it.
